Accessing mySQL with CR XI Standard?

I've been connecting to an MS SQL database using an OLE DB (ADO) in Crystal Reports XI (R2A) Standard for many years. Recently, my company added a mySQL database which I would like access as well. After troubleshooting a variety of issues involving 32/64 bit ODBC drivers and DSNs (solved thankfully from previous posts in forums like this) I finally was able to get CR to recognize the database and attempt to access it. But now I get this error:

"Not implemented. Details: Cannot connect to this data source. This is Crystal Reports Standard Edition. Please upgrade to Crystal Reports Professional version..."

Is this error correct? Is mySQL not supported in the Standard edition? Is there a technical reason for this, because as a user case I will be creating similar reports as I currently do on the msSQL database, I'm not sure what is more "Professional" about my needs other than the type of database?  Unfortunately, I am currently the only CR user at my company so it is doubtful we will purchase a Professional edition for the minimum 10-users-per-month cost.  Do newer Standard versions of CR support mySQL access? Are there any other solutions for a single user to access a mySQL database with Crystal Reports?

Thank you for your assistance!
